PLEASE HELP AFTER WILDFIRE HITS SANCTUARY. On Friday, a wall of flames burst through the northern perimeter of the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa. The lions and tigers were lured into safe zones soaked in water, while the ADIWS team fought the fire for over two hours. Six fire fighters (water tanks with high pressure hoses) on trucks fought the flames along with beaters, fire extinguishers and blowers. Neighbours also came to help – the ADIWS team is part of a firewatch network that fights all local fires together. All animal residents and people were kept safe. Our fire prevention measures proved effective, but it was a reminder of the devastating potential of wildfires, and how we must install the extended fire protection measures around our residents’ habitats.
We urgently need to repair damage to our perimeter fences, solar panels, equipment, two vehicles damaged in the fire, and a solar panel and energiser which pumps water from one of our wells to the animal habitats and houses was destroyed. We also want to install soaker systems around all the habitats, to soak the grass at first fire alert. Can you help us today? donate.adiusa.org/sanctuary/
