We hope that your first week of the new year has been as relaxed as Dominga’s!The spectacled bear was rescued in 2017 by ADI from a remote zoo in Peru. Taken from the wild as cubs, when her sister passed away Dominga was left all alone. She lost almost all of her fur due to stress. Five years ago ADI took Dominga home to a specially built habitat in the Peruvian forest at Taricaya Ecological Reserve. Her fur didn’t grow back but she has thrived and has two other bears, Cholita and Sabina, as neighbours. If Dominga looks completely relaxed and at home here, it’s because she is home.

A HUGE VICTORY FOR BIG CATS! The Big Cat Public Safety Act passed the Senate today and now heads to President Joe Biden to be signed into law. We are just one small step away from ending the breeding of big cats for cub petting, photo ops, backyard ‘zoos’, and the pet trade in the US. THANK YOU to Rep Mike Quigley and Senator Richard Blumenthal for their leadership, to everyone who contacted their Congress members urging their support, and to those who helped to spread the word. Years of hard work saw this landmark victory for the animals today. The rampant cycle that fuels the trade and trafficking that’s killing big cats in the wild ends here. Now, let’s end the suffering of big cats and other animals in circuses across the US. Urge your Congress members to co-sponsor the Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act (#TEAPSPA, HR5999/ S3220): https://bit.ly/SupportTEAPSPA #BCPSA #BigCatPublicSafetyAct

ANOTHER SEASON OF HORSE DEATHS. Two young racehorses died during the opening weekend of California’s Del Mar racetrack’s fall season. A 5-year-old gelding collapsed and died while walking to the barn after the race. Two days later, a 6-year-old gelding collapsed at the track and later died. Both incidents were reported as sudden deaths. Such loss of life is not unusual in horse racing. Far from harmless, the physical strain of racing takes its toll on the animals, with many suffering bleeding lungs, bone and muscle damage, and other (including drug-related) injuries which can lead to death. How you can help:❌Do not attend or bet on animal races.✅ Protest local horse races on social media or in person✅ Contact your local and federal legislators and urge them to support legislation to protect horses: https://bit.ly/contactUSlegislators✅ Sign the petition: https://ladyfreethinker.org/sign-ban-brutal-state-sanctioned-horse-racing-in-california Please spread the word about the hidden suffering behind horse racing.
Teri I really hate that animals are used for any kind of entertainment for humans. The circus, horse or dog racing, zoos, just to name a few. 10 months ago
